Create your first client

This page explains what a client is and walks you through creating one — it takes under a minute.

What a client is

A client is Advec's top-level container: it groups the ad accounts you connect, the campaign groups you build, and the website monitors you set up. Everything you see — issues, alerts, changes, reports — is organized by client.

If you're an agency, the natural mapping is one client in Advec per client business. In-house, one client per brand or region works well.

Create a client

  1. In the app, open Clients from the sidebar.
  2. Click New client.
  3. Give it a name (the client or brand name is usually right) and click Create.

That's it. The new client appears in your list. Open it to connect an ad account or add a website monitor.

What lives on the client

Most of what decides how Advec treats a client's accounts is set on the client page itself:

  • Alert settings, at the bottom of the page: the client's time zone, its digest frequency, a monthly budget, a budget floor, and its alert rule — which channels get which alerts, and quiet hours. See Alert rules and quiet hours and Budgets and pacing.
  • Recognised people: the people you expect to make changes in this client's accounts. Changes by anyone else stand out. See Understanding change detection.

You don't need to fill any of this in now. Without a rule, on Pro and Agency every active, verified channel gets the client's critical and operational alerts, and the client's digest follows your account default.

Monthly budgets, the budget floor and alert rules need the Pro or Agency plan. Recognised People work on every plan.

Campaign groups come later

Once a client has ad accounts, you can optionally split its campaigns into campaign groups — named selections used to scope change feeds, reports, and email digests to part of the account. A client with no groups works perfectly well on its own, so there's nothing to set up now. See Managing clients when you're ready.
